after being awash in ads and gift guides that make me go "wow some ppl ARE rich i guess" this was a treat!!! for tree decor, my parents had a tradition of saving wine corks through the year and then writing the year and a thing the family did to be ornaments. personally even when i drank i was only buying twist offs but it's cute if you do have corks lol.
haven't managed to complete this yet but i've done this DIY back in high school to make a bowl out of random $1 record from the thrift store by heating in the oven and then shaping it - they come out pretty cute! obviously meant for storing random junk and not for eating. https://www.instructables.com/How-to-Make-Vinyl-Record-Bowl/?amp_page=true
This year I am giving almost exclusively photo albums with prints of me and my friends over the past year. I made like 15 identical ones for our group of friends that does Shabbat together ❤️ I ordered the cheapest plastic albums from Amazon (evil) and printed 4x6 photos at CVS— 15 cents a print rn. But you could do a more bespoke album if you’re making just one or two!! Memories ❤️
If i remember correctly from the experience of creating it, it kind of ended up BEING abt 30 pages once every branching path worked to its end. I structured like a very stunted Choose Your Own Adventure map (you can find maps of their story structures online thanks to an Atlas Obscura article) and started playing arpund with making my own maps. It gets out of hand VERY quick, so in order to have a reasonable ratio of choice to pages, i think some storylines ended up in the same place, a sort of magic trick, and some storylines resolve very quick. it was really really hard lol. idk if maddy had an easier time.
The worst part of any zine project is figuring out page numbers, so a choose your own adventure zine is especially tricky--I wrote mine directly into InDesign template so I could see where I was at, and I wrote the longest storyline first because I knew it would take up the most pages. But yes as Clover said, a lot of your storylines are going to terminate in 1-3 pages or combine and this is just part of the genre lol
That’s so sweet!! The one clover made me is 30 pages, and Maddy’s are both 34 pages, so I guess around there? I know it was a complex project for clover haha I will ask her to report back here with any advice so watch this space
This is the best gift guide I've ever seen in my life

Beckett!! Such a sweet idea, I would love if someone gave me this. Officially Dyke domesticity approved 😤
Truly a perfect gift guide! Had to edit to ask: how many pages is an ideal choose your own adventure? I'm ~inspired~

Thank you so much, this is very clarifying! The story maps on Atlas Obscura were quite helpful, too.
Happy branching!

Thank you! 30 pages sounds manageable, whew
