I’ve also been considering writing about the Turtleboy angle—the only time I’ve gotten credible death threats have been when he’s covered my work. The memes he’s made about me are VILE. People not from Mass don’t understand this context. I was HORRIFIED when the doc revealed that she approached HIM as her media ally!!!

Omg how awful. Yeah he’s demonic- I feel like the extent to which he’s just fully a bigot should have been at least slightly addressed by the doc!! But I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t want to go there bc it would reflect so unfavorably on KR and it was obviously made in cooperation with her :/ yeah villains all around tho

I was targeted by TB! I have a friend that’s a judge and another that was a nurse during covid. The amount of death threats, harassment and insanity we were subjected to is indescribable. I wish someone would write about him and interview the people whose lives were destroyed or threatened. My situation was ignited by a one star FB review of a local pizza shop. The shop owner published my receipts with my home address and phone number. The harassment was 24/7 calls, texts etc. His loyal followers vandalized my home, my cars and they shot buckshot at my dogs while they were sleeping in my yard. I had security cameras installed after they were poisoned. I brought the video to my police station and tried to file a report. The cops laughed at me, refused to take a report and threatened to arrest me for trying to file a false police report. I literally had to move to get away from the violence.

That’s unbelievably awful, I’m so sorry. And FUCK those cops, wow. You could reach out to a reporter at the Globe and suggest the story/offer yourself as a source if you’re down for that… now would probably be the moment, as he’ll hopefully never be in the spotlight again.

As a public school teacher my personal information is public. I could never put myself through that again. I would be putting myself, my partner and my pets in danger all over again. My friend the judge is my former SIL. She has a police escort from the court house to her home town where she’s met by a local police officer her escorts her home and she has 24/7 protection. Even with all that they still managed to harass her, vandalize her home and poison her pups. She was the one who advised me to move because I didn’t have the means to protect myself or my pets. I moved to the west coast for six months. Believing the harassment had passed I moved back into my house only to have it all start all over again. I ended up taking an international teaching position abroad. I now live in the Boston area but not in that same town. Why am I sharing all this? Because the threat is real. He is more powerful now than ever. His followers are as loyal as MAGA. He doesn’t care about breaking the law ie intimidating witnesses. Every time he goes to jail or court his followers donate to his legal fund. He’s raised millions throughout this trial. He’s a parasite that feeds on hate and vitriol and has figured out a way to make millions doing it.

oh my GOD. I don't think I realized the extent he was doing this shit to normal people. He's a foul little imp. I'm so sorry you went through that, you're right, someone should collect some interviews. Could be you.

Oh man thank you for this cultural context. I am a life long Bostonian and well versed in the south shore thin blue line vibes but totally missed the TB of it all.

Julia Golda Harris and Clover: Your story about the Turtleboy Statue alone would have made this column worthwhile reading.

I will be stuck forever with the image of the statue.

Very sorry (sincerely!!) about the fate of the Sculptor.

Obviously a very gifted artist.

Actually, to me the Turtleboy looks like a pelagic theme, like riding the deep sea on a dolphin, but here with a sea turtle.

I would not have thought of . . . well . . . OTHER possible interpretations.

Just a ride over the waves in the pelagic with a maritime creature.

What ELSE could one think of?!

To a clean person, all images are pure.

Very entertaining on that score ALONE.

Very informative about the trial.

As an old, cynical lawyer, I hold true to the concepts: (1) INNOCENT until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, to a moral certainty, before a court of law; and (2) Due process of law FOR EVERYBODY, NO EXCEPTIONS -- always, DUE PROCESS and a society of laws and ordered liberty.

My inspiration: Justice Benjamin Cardozo.

Mr. Cardozo is one of the true greats in American jurisprudence, and I believe his jurisprudence led to the statesmanship of Justice Felix Frankfurter.

Well then Armand you will love competing Worcester statue Dolphin Boy. I cannot link an image but if you look it up you will see there is a perfectly respectable separate statue of a boy riding with a dolphin. In my mind, he is the Anthises to Turtle Boy's evil.

Clover: Your narratives and contributions here are priceless, and I share your core values.

OMG!

Here is a website from Worcester with BOTH statues, one after the other!

Er, . . . I like the dolphin picture better. Unmistakable.

I read your and Julia Golda Harris' column with great interest. A real fan.

Thank you for the pointer!

As a merely Boston-adjacent ex-New Englander, I knew nothing about this case other than just having heard her name around vaguely, but this had me absolutely cackling at every turn! Unbelievable South Shore madness. Hittin' it outta the park (pahk) as usual, lxdies.

Troopah Proctah was actually dishonorably discharged (not suspended). Also, not like anyone cares but I’m pretty sure one of Turtleboy’s readers sent him that infamous Boston Mag article, or one like it, and he got interested in the miscarriage of justice and contacted KR, not the other way around. She obviously used his platform for publicity and it worked, because the case has the goods.

I’ve been following the case since the jump, and also dislike Turtleboy (who often uses the word “re****d”which I find highly offensive), but he didn’t go to that damn pizza shop to grill Chris Albert, those facts are very wrong.

I’m curious where you get the “racist” vibe from her….she’s a college professor in Boston so that label doesn’t quite track….Admittedly, the doc didn’t show her in the best light. Also, it sounds like I’m super invested in this, but it’s very entertaining and horribly fucked up.

We iust got our info from the doc, which despite still making Karen Read seem kinda crazy, is definitely made with her collaboration and probably input and I think is ultimately meant to show her in a *positive* light. In the doc they mention her already being a fan of turtleboy and reaching out. So from there I was like okay, it's pretty impossible to read anything Kearney writes without finding explicit racism.

She's also like a business professor specifically, which doesn't really hold any socially profressive archetype to me, and a Southie dating a cop. So we put that together and were like "Well this woman was not supporting the George Floyd uprisings let'a just say that" lol
