I know it's so cliché but in terms of global cities that are full of history and feel like you can get a glimpse of what it must be to live there in a few days: Berlin.

Marseille is another great one

V Euro-centric, apologies, and v heavily influenced Just by cities I've had a good time in lol

Clover and Julia Golda Harris: You both enjoyed the culture and history of Mexico City in a joyful way that is beautifully reflected in the photos and your narrative.

Blessings to both of you!

Loved all these recommendations so much!! I’m going to CDMX in June for the first time. I’ll be solo some of the time and joining a small group tour for the rest. Any hot tips for navigating the city for a solo, middle-aged queer?

Only thing I'd add is that we (by we I mean Clover) found the salsa meetup on Reddit, and that might be a good source for learning of more meetups and such where you can go rub shoulders with locals (esp if you speak Spanish) and chat/do an activity! It's also a really great city for just wandering around, sitting in parks, etc. Seems great for solo travel. I'm sure you'll have a blast :)

Oh, good idea. Would be fun to find folks into painting/sketching (current hobby). Thanks!

If you mean tips like "how to not be a mark", knowing some spanish obviously helps a lot, but people are accommodating to English.

Lots of places take card, but carrying some cash at all times is useful.

Coyoacan is a great area to walk around yourself and have a peaceful day.

It's a normal city -- don't be paranoid, but be aware of your wallet and phone, don't keep anything in your back pocket.

It might be regularly storming in June, be ready for that.

Let us know if you go to the gay bars, we did not lol (besides Revuelta)

Working on my Spanish. All those years in HS and college seem to have faded away. Great advice. Thanks!
