Recap: Chutney Popcorn

Hi all! For our first-ever subscriber-only Big Gay Recap, Clover and I watched the 1999 indie movie Chutney Popcorn. The movie was co-written, directed, and starred in by Nisha Ganatra. Fun fact: she also directed several episodes of The Real World! We really enjoyed watching this movie and writing this recap! It’s currently streaming on Prime without any extra subscriptions, which is how we watched it. Obviously we don’t endorse Amazon lol but if you have access to a Prime account, you might as well use it for this. This move is super indie, super gay, and super contains interstitial shots of the soft butch protagonist riding a motorcycle in between every scene. We hope you enjoy this recap! Scroll to the end for a tantalizing tease of recaps to come.

Note: this recap is long as fuck. Brevity’s not our strong suit. We hope you like that about us, lol.

Take it away, Clover!

Clover: We open on close-up, sensual shots of women’s hands painting other women’s bodies with henna over pretty traditional-sounding Hindi music, tablas etc. We do see a henna tramp stamp. Tradition meets modernity, here we come! The credits fade in over the scene in Comic Sans.
