I wrote last month about my experimentation with veganism, and how I’ve landed on a pescatarian (mostly vegetarian) diet. I’ve stuck with it so far (with occasional exceptions when I’m being fed at work) and I must say, I feel great about it! My body doesn’t feel any different than it did when I was eating meat - what feels good is a choice that’s brought me closer to my ethics.
It’s been fun to also think about how my new way of eating is connected to a lesbian and feminist vegetarian tradition. Now, there’s a whole feminist vegetarian intellectual school of thought (Carol J. Adams’ The Sexual Politics of Meat being a notable work in this vein), but that’s not what I’m getting into here. No, we’re here for the vibes. For paid subscribers, I’m sharing below some examples of lesbian vegetarian aesthetics (some of which we might even call lesbian vegetarian kitsch), as well as my commentary, plus a few recent hot-weather meals that I’ve made and enjoyed. Come along!
